Terms of Service

Please read this before continuing. Using Parent Setu means you agree to everything below.
1. What Parent Setu is
Parent Setu is a family communication app. It helps adult children and their parents or loved ones stay close: it makes it easier to keep in touch from far away, to remind and take care of your parents, and to alert your family when your parent wants help. In this way it can help reduce worry and some of the everyday risks of living apart, and it helps increase the closeness and communication between parents and children. It is a communication tool between family members -- it is not a medical device, a professional caregiving service, a security or monitoring service run by trained staff, or an emergency service, and it cannot prevent every problem.
2. Who can use it, and your parent's agreement
You must be 18 or older to create a sibling account. Parent Setu is meant for adults looking after the day-to-day wellbeing of an adult family member. Before you add a parent, make sure they know about it and agree to it: the app can show their family when they complete a reminder and check in, roughly where they are around an SOS press or a check-in, and it lets family send them photos and voice notes. You are responsible for having that agreement -- or for being legally entitled to act on their behalf -- and you should not add anyone who does not know about it.
3. Not a replacement for emergency services
Parent Setu works through phones, networks and other companies' services, so like any technology it can be late, wrong or unavailable: a phone can be off, offline, out of battery, on silent or limited by its maker, a network or service can be down, and we can have faults. An alert, alarm, reminder or location may therefore arrive late, be inaccurate, or not arrive at all, so please treat Parent Setu as one more way to stay in touch with and take care of your parent, never the only one. The SOS feature notifies your family and lets your parent reach the emergency contacts you've set up for them -- it does not itself contact police, an ambulance, or any emergency helpline. In a life-threatening situation, always contact local emergency services directly as well. Do not rely on Parent Setu as your only way to get emergency help. When your parent presses SOS or checks in, the app also attempts to capture their approximate location and share it with your family -- this is best-effort only, depends on device permissions, connectivity, and a fix actually being available at that moment, and may be refreshed periodically while an alert stays open. Siblings may also choose to forward that location to an emergency number or any other contact using the app's own sharing feature; doing so is each sibling's own choice and responsibility. Where a native Android app is offered for siblings, its louder SOS alarm -- designed to sound even with the phone locked or in Do Not Disturb mode -- depends on permissions and settings you configure yourself on that phone (such as Do Not Disturb access and, on some phone brands, background-app settings); if these aren't set, or a phone's manufacturer overrides them, you may still receive an ordinary notification but not the louder alarm. Keeping these settings in place is your own responsibility, and we cannot promise identical behavior across every phone model. The spoken message that comes with an alarm is read out by your phone's own text-to-speech; on a phone with no speech engine, or no voice for the chosen language, the alarm may sound without it, or the message may be read in English. SOS needs an active subscription or free month: it keeps working for 3 days after a paid subscription ends, and then stops until a subscription is renewed (it stops straight away if the free month ends without a subscription). When SOS is stopped, the SOS button on your parent's phone shows the emergency number 112 instead. Do not rely on Parent Setu as your only way to get emergency help at any time. If SOS is stopped, please tell your parent.
4. You are responsible for the data you enter
Reminder titles, notes, schedules, daily routines, and contact details are entered and maintained by whichever sibling manages that parent's profile. Parent Setu reminds and reports based exactly on what has been entered -- it has no independent medical knowledge and does not check whether a reminder, its details, or its timing is correct. Keeping this information accurate, complete, and up to date is your responsibility. Parent Setu is not a substitute for care or supervision: do not rely on a reminder, or on its notification arriving on time, as the only safeguard for anything where a missed or late reminder could cause harm. Photos and voice notes shared through Moments are likewise your own content -- Parent Setu doesn't review or moderate them, and each Moment is automatically deleted a short time after it's sent (by default within about 12 hours) rather than kept as a permanent archive; save a copy yourself if you want to keep it longer. Please share only photos and voice notes that you have the right to share. Before a photo is sent you can look at it, choose who receives it, retake it or discard it, and afterwards you can delete any photo or voice note you sent from the Moments screen. Deleting removes it from Parent Setu, but it cannot remove a copy that someone has already saved on their own phone.
5. Acceptable use
Use Parent Setu only for its intended purpose: caring for and staying in touch with your own family. Please do not use it to track, monitor, or harass anyone who has not agreed to it; share unlawful, abusive, or harmful content; try to break, overload, or get around the app's security or billing; use another person's phone number or account; or set off SOS alerts as a joke or without warning your family first (if you are testing, tell them beforehand). We may suspend access if these rules are broken (see Section 11).
6. Subscription and billing
Only siblings are charged; parents never pay or see billing screens. Every sibling gets one free month automatically the first time their phone number ever signs in -- no payment method required -- which never repeats for the same number. After that, adding or changing things needs a subscription. The current price is always shown in the app's Settings before you pay; at the time of writing it is ₹79 a month, which covers you and up to 2 parents you add, plus ₹79 a month for each additional parent you add. Siblings in the same family each pay for themselves, and one sibling's subscription never changes another's. If you pay from outside India with PayPal, the price is in US dollars (currently US$1.99 for each ₹79 unit). Payments are processed by Razorpay (UPI or card) or PayPal -- we never see or store your card or bank details -- and taxes, currency conversion, and bank or payment-provider charges may apply. A subscription renews automatically every month until you cancel it in Settings; cancelling keeps your access until the end of the period you've already paid for. The free month is only that: when it ends, everything except viewing stops until you subscribe, and there is no grace period after it. If you subscribe during your free month, your first monthly charge is made when the free month ends, not before. If a paid subscription ends -- because it was not renewed, you cancelled it, or a renewal payment failed -- everything except SOS keeps working for 2 more days after the last paid day, and SOS keeps working for 3 more days. These grace periods are given only after a paid subscription, as a safety margin, and are not a promise of free service. After them, you can still view your family's information, create a family, add parents and send the setup link, but you cannot add or change reminders, routines, contacts or Moments, your parent cannot use the app, and SOS stops until a subscription is renewed. Renewing restores everything straight away. Cancelling does not refund the unused part of a period. Pricing may occasionally increase -- typically by around 5-10% or less -- at our discretion, to reflect inflation or new features added to the app; this is not a fixed yearly increase, just something that may happen from time to time, and any such change only applies to future billing periods, never to a period you've already paid for. Refunds and the full billing mechanics are described in the Refund & Cancellation Policy.
7. Your account
You're responsible for keeping your own sign-in secure and for anything done under your account. A parent's device is linked by a one-time setup link you generate and send them -- treat that link as sensitive, since anyone who opens it can link a device as that parent. If you uninstall the app or sign out on a device, alerts to that device stop. Your family's saved information stays on our servers so that signing back in or reinstalling restores everything as it was; we keep it for as long as your account is active and for up to about 12 months after you stop using it, after which it may be deleted. You can ask us to delete your family's information at any time by writing to support@parentsetu.com.
8. Notifications, alarms and voice messages
We work to make reminders and alerts arrive quickly, but delivery depends on many things we do not control. A notification may arrive later than expected, or not arrive at all -- for example if your parent's phone is off, uncharged, or disconnected, or a phone's own notification or battery settings are affecting it. We're always working to make delivery as fast and dependable as possible; see Section 10 for how this is handled in those rare situations. If you plan to uninstall the app from your own phone, log out first (Settings -> Log out) -- this stops alerts to that phone immediately. Uninstalling without logging out first usually stops alerts too, but not always right away: your phone only tells us it's gone the next time we try sending something, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. You can switch off most kinds of notification in Settings (siblings and parents each choose for their own phone); SOS alerts and billing or account notices cannot be switched off. Alarms may also speak a short message aloud using your phone's own voice, which depends on the phone and may not be available on every phone. Reminders work like this: your parent's phone gets a notification up to an hour before the time you set, and if a reminder is still not marked done an hour or more after that time, the parent's phone can sound a louder alarm and siblings can be alerted. These timings may change as the app is improved, and a reminder or alarm that arrives late, or not at all, does not replace checking on your parent yourself.
9. Your information and privacy
How we handle personal information -- including location, photos, voice notes, and the services we use to run Parent Setu -- is explained in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: location is captured only around an SOS press or a check-in; when your parent presses SOS, their device may listen for a few seconds and turn what they say into text that is attached to the alert (depending on the browser, a speech service from its maker, such as Google for Chrome, may process that audio); and we never sell your information.
10. No warranty; limitation of liability
Parent Setu is provided "as is" and "as available." We work to make it useful and dependable, but we cannot promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any message, alarm, reminder, location or alert will be sent or received. You remain responsible for caring for and checking on your parent. To the fullest extent the law allows, Parent Setu and its operator are not liable for loss or harm that comes from the app failing, being late or being unavailable, from other companies' services (mobile network, push notifications, WhatsApp), from phone settings, or from information entered or shared by you or another family member. Our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that the law does not allow to be limited.
11. Suspending or ending your use
You can stop using Parent Setu at any time: cancel your subscription and log out in Settings, and ask us to delete your family's information. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken, if the law requires it, or if it is needed to protect the app or other people, and we may change, pause, or stop features from time to time. If we ever plan to end the service as a whole, we will try to give you notice in the app first.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts in India have jurisdiction over any dispute about them, without affecting any rights you have under the law of the place where you live that cannot be waived.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app changes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms; if a change is significant, we'll ask you to review and accept it again.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to support@parentsetu.com. This address is also where to send a complaint or a request about your personal information.
This page is shown in English only. Signed-in siblings can read the same terms in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, or Malayalam from inside the app -- the English version is what governs if any translation is ever imprecise.
